Extra Credit

A couple days ago there were 2 girls that came into our classroom. They asked us to write our name on a piece of sticker and put it on our shirts. Matt, Garrett and I changed our names to Spencer, G Swag, and Jessica. (We all got a kick out of that) Then they went and asked us what we considered bullying. They wrote a whole list on the board for us to see. A couple examples of bullying were: cyber bullying, verbal bullying, nonverbal bullying, sexual harassment, physical bullying, ignoring someone, emotional bullying, and racial bullying. There are plenty more that I haven’t named. Then we went around the room and said our name (Jessica) and state “if someone really knew me they would know….”  After the whole class went we did another exercise, the 2 girls put a red piece of tape on the floor and asked us all to pick a side and stand there. Then they asked us a variety of questions and if it applied to us we had to stand on the line. This was to show how similar we all were. They got the idea from the movie The Freedom Writers. They asked us questions like: Have you ever done something illegal? Have you ever bullied someone? Have you ever been bullied? Have you ever judged someone for what they wear? Have you ever been judged on what you wear? Have you ever felt like you haven’t fit in? And, have you ever changed your ways to fit in? Questions pretty much like that but there were a lot more than just that. Then Emily passed around papers that had our names on the top and we all got other peoples papers. The reason for this was to say something good about each person in the class room. The purpose for this is first of all for the person to feel good about themselves and for everyone else to get complemented and to see what the people in the class thinks about them. I really enjoyed my paper! There were funny and typical thing on my paper from Matt haha and there were some really nice comments! When I read my paper it made me feel really good and loved by the classroom. I feel like you never really realize how good a compliment could feel. Some compliments that I got were that I was really outgoing, and that I have a pretty smile, and I was beautiful, and that I had nice eyes. And some other ones were that I had sexy legs and that I had very nice perky features. After that the class was pretty much over but it really bonded the class and made us all come closer together. I honestly feel that I made new friends that day and that makes me feel good J. So I feel the main reason we had that course was to show that no one wants to get bullied and everyone likes compliments. The main rule is “Treat others how you would want others to treat you!”
